VI.COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is designed to introduce the beginning student to college life.  It provides information regarding what the college expects and what the student should expect from the college.  The course also addresses student attitudes, goals, and study skills.  Modules from the Workplace Readiness program will be integrated in the course to include problem-solving techniques, methods for resolving conflicts, and skills for successful teamwork.

VIII.COURSE OBJECTIVES

The Student Will:
Utilize college resources to enhance academic performance and success;
Apply the SQ4R method for studying and note-taking;
Develop goals and plans for meeting those goals;
Assess their level of self-esteem;
Use problem-solving techniques to make effective decisions; and
Apply methods for resolving conflicts to the workplace.


IX.COURSE REQUIREMENTS
Lecture will be used to introduce basic material, supplemented by audiovisuals.  Exploration of the college campus will be expected.  Students will complete assigned exercises and actively participate in discussion sessions.  Attendance at all sessions is expected.

XII.ACADEMIC DISHONESTY POLICY

This college expects all students to be honest in their academic activities.  Any student found guilty of academic dishonesty may be dropped from the course with a grade of F.  Examples of and procedures for charges of academic dishonesty are given on page 36 of the college catalog.

ASSIGNMENT CHOICES

Volunteer for a charitable activity, show verification, and write a paragraph on the experience.


Attend Special Populations seminars in the auditorium and write a paragraph on the experience.  Show verification.




Orientation
All new students are required to complete an orientation course as part of their educational program. The purpose of the orientation program is to introduce the students to college life and to impart strategies for student success. Through participation in this program, new students are introduced to college policies and procedures, receive assessment of academic standing, financial aid assistance, a campus tour, and an opportunity to meet with faculty members, administration, staff, and SGA officers.
