Although formal learning is the most important enterprise at Reid State Technical College (RSTC), the college recognizes the valuable learning and growth in students also occur through non academic activities. As a RSTC student, you will be encouraged to participate in the nonacademic activities designed to help you develop intellectually and socially. You will interact with fellow students, faculty, and other staff members to improve your communication and leadership skills. RSTC offers a wide variety of cultural, recreational, political, and entertainment experiences for every student to find something appropriate to his or her needs. Awards Day
Each semester Reid State Technical College honors students who made the President's and Dean List during an awards ceremony. Also, most outstanding students from each program are recognized. Door prizes are given away to students who hold the winning ticket.
Halloween Treats
Spooky, kooky, creepy, and fun! At Reid State Technical College Halloween is the time of Ghosts, Goblins, Gravestones and Graveyards. Our students enjoy fun spooks and spirits, and a variety of treats and silly fun.
Mardi Gras
Mardi Gras is Alabama's premiere party session! At Reid State Technical College it's time to enjoy life, party, and have a good time! It's irresistibly fun, vibrant, and sassy! For our students we provide cups, beads, moon pies, award prizes, and have a Mardi Gras Ball with a King and Queen.
Spring Fling
Every spring semester Reid State Technical College students enjoy a day at Avery Park playing softball. Students have fun competing against different departments, while faculty and staff cheer for their favorite team. Afterwards, students enjoy eating Subway sandwiches, chips, cookies, Blue Bell ice cream and plenty of water and soda.
Movie Day
On the third Wednesday of each month come and watch a movie in the Student Center on us.
Valentine's Day
Every February at Reid State Technical College, candy, flowers, and gifts are exchanged between loved ones, and a Valentine King and Queen are chosen all in the name of St. Valentine.
Christmas
This special time of the year evokes many warm feelings and desires. At Reid State Technical College our students enjoy all the festive decorations, parties, and a special Christmas dinner. The SGA delivers gifts to the Human Resources Department for the Toys for Tots campaign to honor those less fortunate children. Behind all of these celebrations is the true meaning of Christmas.
West Alabama Schools Visitation Day
The purpose of the West Alabama Learning Coalition is to establish Professional Development School (PDS) relationships. Reid State Technical College has its annual West Alabama Schools Visitation Day in April, co-sponsored by the Truman-Pierce Institute which includes Clark, Monroe, and Wilcox counties. During the Workshop/Visitation Day, counselors and students will collect information about enrollment to Reid State. As a grand finale students from the different high schools showcase their talent during a talent show. The winners are announced by using Apollo style voting.
Student Government Association
The Student Government Association (SGA), a body of student representatives and officers elected by the students, is the coordinating body for all student activities approved by the college. Its purpose are to foster your interest and involvement in all aspects of college citizenship and to encourage your involvement in important decisions affecting students so that the general welfare of the College is improved.
The Reid State Technical College Student Government Association is involved in and concerned with the operation of Reid State, and its members provide a valuable communication link between faculty and administration and the student body. The SGA is also responsible for fund-raising activities, assisting with graduation ceremonies, and recruiting.
The officers of the SGA are to be elected annually and consist of the following: President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
Blood Drive
The Student Government Association (SGA) officers sponsor a blood drive twice a year to help save lives.
Job Placement Assistance
If you are seeking employment while attending Reid State Technical College (RSTC), or if you are a former RSTC student looking for a job, visit the Placement Office, located in the Student Service Building. A graduate workshop is held every semester to assist students. The staff will help you search for job vacancies, write letters of applications, compose and produce resumes, and prepare for job interviews. This office posts an up-to-date list of state and area part-time and full-time job opportunities. Go the the Placement Office to complete appropriate forms and to compose and place on file your current resume. For more information, call (251) 578-1313 ext. 151.
All requests of employers to the Job Placement Office concerning employment of graduates are forwarded to the faculty in that occupational area for referrals. The Office of Student Development also provides employment expositions so students may meet multiple employers during one event. Job announcements are posted on campus and are distributed to faculty to notify students. Successful job placement, however, is not guaranteed.
