2022-2023 Academic Year

Process to complete FAFSA Application

Completing the FAFSA on the Web is the first step in applying for grants and college work study. Students are encouraged to use the computer lab in the Student Services Building to file their FAFSA.  Assistance is available for students having questions or needing help in the submission process.  Students are encouraged to make an appointment in a timely manner with the Financial Aid Office if help is needed to complete the process.

1.     Apply online at FAFSA.

2.     If you haven't already created an FSA ID, create a FSA ID first. Both the student and parent must sign the application. Once you have created an FSA ID, click Apply and login using your FSA ID.

3.     Make sure you list Reid State Technical College (Federal School Code – 005692) in “Schools Section” of the FAFSA.  Failure to list our Federal School Code will result in a delay in the processing of your application.

4.     Make sure that you have applied for admission or readmission to RSTC. For returning students, application for readmission must be submitted if you have not attended RSTC during the past two (2) terms. You must submit, high school transcript and/or GED and all college transcripts to the admission office. All college transcripts must be evaluated before you can be awarded aid.

If you list RSTC on your FAFSA and complete the application correctly, RSTC will receive your financial aid information electronically. You will receive a correspondence from RSTC when your aid is received. It is your responsibility to review your financial aid status online at www.rstc.edu under MyRSTC and provide any documentation requested. If you have not heard from RSTC in a reasonable time frame you should contact the Financial Aid Office. Please respond immediately to all RSTC requests for additional information.

Federal Verification of FAFSA Application: The Department of Education selects some FAFSA applications for a process called verification.  During verification, the financial aid administrator will ask the applicant to supply copies of documentation, such as tax return transcripts, W-2 statements and 1099 forms, to verify the data that was submitted on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  If your financial aid is selected by the Department of Education, you will be required to complete and return the forms listed in the Financial Aid Status of your Student Information Center online at rstc.edu under the Financial Aid section. You may download the Free Adobe Reader to vew and print these forms.

You may complete these forms at your PC so that you can control the size of the form for better viewing. We suggest you fax forms only in emergencies as the quality often results in an unreadable document. All too often the wrong (blank) side of the form is faxed to us.
