Withdrawal Header

WHAT IT MEANS TO WITHDRAW

Withdrawal refers to both withdrawing from a course and withdrawing from the college. You may withdraw from a course during the published withdrawal period on the Academic Calendar. A “W” grade will be assigned, which does not affect your GPA. To withdraw, you must complete the official Withdrawal Form. If you stop attending and don’t complete the process, you will receive an “F.”

It is highly recommended that all students first connect to an instructor and/or advisor prior to withdrawing. Student athletes and Health Sciences students must notify the appropriate department prior to withdrawing from any course. Health Science students participating in clinical courses may receive a grade prior to the withdrawal date and, thereby, become ineligible for withdrawal.

HOW WITHDRAWALS AFFECT FINANCIAL AID

Withdrawing from a course—or simply stopping attendance—can directly impact your financial aid. Reid State is required by federal law to adjust financial aid based on your enrollment and class attendance. If you are receiving financial aid and withdraw from a course or stop participating, your financial aid may be reduced. If you never attend a class, you are not eligible to receive aid for that course.

Financial aid is calculated based on your enrollment and your actual attendance, which is confirmed by your instructors. The key date for determining your eligibility is the 10th day after regular registration ends—this is often referred to as the census date. This date is tied to the last day to add or drop classes for the term.

  • If you are not attending your classes by the census date, your financial aid may be reduced or canceled.

  • If you add classes after the census date, your aid may not be increased to cover those classes.

  • If you withdraw from a course before the census date, that class may not be counted toward your aid eligibility. This could result in a lower financial aid award.

  • If your financial aid is reduced after it has been disbursed, you may be required to repay some or all of the funds you received.

  • If you owe a balance because of a reduction in aid, you must pay that balance before you will be allowed to register for future classes at Reid State or any other college. Outstanding balances may also be referred to a collection agency.

If you are considering withdrawing or changing your schedule, always contact the Financial Aid Office at finaid@rstc.edu first. We are here to help you understand how your decisions may affect your financial aid and avoid unexpected costs.
